Habithacker in training

I was a clean fairy for Halloween this year and I was totally being sarcastic

I’m not an organized person. I’m not the most tidy person.

I don’t necessarily want to be super organized nor super tidy but it would be nice to be able to find a pair of shoes for all of to wear when we want to go out.

It was with that in mind that I first started the Flylady program.

It didn’t work for me.

(This is not to say that Flylady wouldn’t work for others-it obviously does, I read many testimonials to that effect-the program just wasn’t a good fit for me.)

When I went in search for an alternative to Flylady because I really do still need help getting myself sorted I found the  Habithacker program.

I do not follow the program to the letter but I have gotten a lot of good from what I’ve incorporated into my life.

I am cleaning in 11 minutes bursts and getting a lot more done than I thought I could.

I do take the  8 minute breaks about every 30 minute or so.

Sunday is my creative day and while I try to be creative everyday it does help to know that if I’m unable to I have more time to spend on a project on that Sunday.

My poo spots are still horrible but better and I’m working on making them better almost every day. (poo is my phrase by the way the Habithacker uses a slightly stronger word so if words like that offend you…be warned.)

You can find out more about Habithacker here.

The site offers 1-90 days of aid in Nest(for organizational house type stuff), Create(to get your arty mojo situated) and SOS(for a 90 day get healthier boost which is next on my list.:)

Getting back on a Healthy Track

at least more often than I chose cake...

Last year I lost a good amount of weight- I even reached the goal weight that I had given myself.
That’s fantastic and yes, I was really proud of that achievement.
That being said I’ve gotten a teeny bit complacent about working out and staying on track with my eating habits lately. By lately I mean since around Thanksgiving.
I talked about it with a couple other ladies that feel like they’ve done the same thing.
We started out really well,we might have even met our goals but our healthy lifestyle train got off track somehow.
I honestly don’t know why- I do however, know that I have this habit of getting very excited about a project and then eventually losing all interest  in that project.
Squid thy name is fickle,if is,I know it.
Granted, I don’t want to view a healthy lifestyle as a project. I’m making a promise now,and yeah I’m making it online because I crave accountability, to start making changes.
I’m promising (myself) to import workouts into my life,at least three times a week.
I’m going to look at what we are eating and see how I can tweak it to make it better.
We do pizza night every Friday and I don’t really want to change that- but I do want to go back to also making a big salad to go with that pizza. It’s something that worked really well for me before.
I need to drink more water,I am horrible at doing this!
And as much as Gizmo loves baking I think that any kitchen time for her would still keep her happy so…..I’m seriously considering cutting out tge baked goods besides the occasional birthday cake or banana bread when our produce turns mushy. We might try making yogurt parfaits, jello or pudding instead.
It’s just a few things that don’t seem like a big deal but I really feel like they could make a lot of difference.
I’d also love to share my progress on this every Tuesday.
Are you dealing with getting back on a healthy track lifestyle too? I’d love to hear(read) about it so feel free to guide me over to where you’re sharing your journey too!

Hi….ahem

I kind of took a week off and haven’t updated this week either- which just confirms my bad blogger status. I made a decision to take a break for a bit but thought it’d be nice to update y’all about that!

We are doing good in Squidland- just a little overwhelmed and getting back on task.  We were in the middle of a routine that was helping A Lot but I got out of the habit then got sick then got swallowed by CHAOS. I’m working to get all of that back under control now though.

If you have ever used or have ever heard of the fly lady system then you know what the whole CHAOS thing is about. Can’t have anybody over syndrome. (Makes me chuckle every time I read that, but it’s exactly how I feel this week.)

I also have a few projects I need to work on, our new Color n Play website is one, an etsy shop is another- crying over the state of our garden might be another. (Seriously I’m in need of a green thumb if you know where I can find one, sigh.)

Other than that we are just going with the flow and continuing to work on our routine and also cutting down on our tv/internet/electronic device time.(This is not just for the kids I need to cut down too!)

I have the kids down to a daily two hour maximum for those and am finding they are happy with less than that a lot of the time. We have movie night on Fridays when we watch a kid movie plus a family movie so that’s an exception but if I am able to get them to bed earlier (something I am also working on)we may trim that down to one movie for them, one movie for us when they’ve gone to bed. (Which would make Mr. Goblin happy as he is in need of a thriller,or a not too scary but not exactly kid friendly flick.)

We are still simplifying too – we got rid of a lot of extra toys, out grown clothes and just stuff that we don’t need but I’m realizing that we could probably get rid of more.

There has been a lot of evaluating ourselves this year and I do feel like we have been suffering from soul fever. (That is a Simplicity Parenting thing and I can’t say how right their whole way of viewing life feels to me, it just makes sense.)

It’s shocking to see how much stuff you really have sometimes. You store it up in boxes to just get it out of your way, you get annoyed when things and clutter are all over the place and the solution is just letting it go. Those things in boxes can stay in those boxes for years without even being thought of and what’s the point in that? I want to live in a home not a storage unit!  :) This is important to me right now if you can tell. So I am taking a bloggy break to get caught up and also to decide where to go from here. I will pop in now and then but I don’t see posting too regularly in the near future. (Of course I could be wrong, I’m a fickle person and just writing this today has felt helpful, lol.)

Thanks for stopping by. :)

Lydia
