Have you met the Mother Goose Club?

If you saw any of my nursery rhyme week posts then you probably know that I’m a Huge fan of all things Mother Goose. These nursery rhymes  deal with repetition, rhyming and are simple enough for children to remember- all of these things greatly assist in promoting  reading readiness in young children. Also? They are fun and lend themselves to all sorts of creative play. Which is why the Mother Goose Club is so interesting to me.

I was recently invited to check out The Mother Goose Club website and YouTube channel with my children. I was really impressed and actually surprised that I had not really heard of them before. The website offers a lot of features such as live action, one minute video segments of entertaining nursery rhymes preformed by Teddy Bear, Jack B. Nimble, Little Bo Peep, Baa Baa Sheep, Mary Quite Contrary, and Eep Mouse . The nursery rhymes themselves are also provided for print out as well as some lovely coloring sheets. There are several packages available for sale in the website’s store and I thought that the fan package was a really cute option if your child is a fan of the Mother Goose Club’s video segments on YouTube.

The YouTube Channel has more video segments available then the website does and we enjoyed looking through  their full list of video segments here together. My oldest liked the Mary Quite Contary character best and my youngest liked Little Bo Peep. I really thought the videos were well thought out and very, very cute.

What I thought that you might want to know is that this Friday the Mother Goose Club will release a free full five-minute episode from their award-winning DVD, “Nursery Rhyme Singing Time with Mother Goose Club”, on their YouTube channel. This is the first time this content is available for free on a global scale, so I’m kind of excited to see it. Are you interested in  meeting the Mother Goose Club?

Nursery Rhyme Partay

Last Friday we partied down like it was 1995…okay maybe not, I don’t really remember much about 1995 if I’m being honest. We did have a nursery rhyme party to end a week of nursery rhyme fun though, and it was pretty neat if I say so myself. :)

To make our party festive I made some fun sheep cupcakes. Each was made with two cupcakes pushed together. The sheep’s wool is made up of large marshmallows that I cut up into smaller pieces, but mini marshmallows would be much easier. (Or near by store just happened to be out of those.)

I also made a Little Bo Peep cake to go with the cupcakes. We also had hot dogs and little boy blue haystacks. It was a fun after school surprise for my oldest to come home to and pretty easy to throw together on a whim.

The book we used last week to learn about nursery rhymes was Mary Engelbreit’s Mother Goose. I’m a huge fan of Mary’s illustrations and bought this book for my oldest’s 1st birthday. I love her take on the nursery rhymes that I grew up with myself. I have enjoyed reading the rhymes to my kids and then doing the activities or snacks that go with them. I think the kids got a lot out of doing this and I enjoyed it too. I can’t wait to try this same approach with other books too. :)
