Well…she was for a little while anyway. It was really close to our youngest’s bedtime, it may have been just a teensy bit past. Okay, alright, it was way past her bedtime and she had popped out of bed wearing the pictured ensemble. I was partly to blame. She had given me a hard time about changing into bedtime clothes so I had finally caved and let her keep on the dress she had worn all day. Obviously that told her that it wasn’t really bedtime at all.(I slipped I’ve really been tired come night time here lately.) It was hard to be mad though when we saw her in this get up.
“Nikki, go back to bed.” I said
“I’m not Nikki…I’m different girl. ”
“You’re different girl? Not Nikki?”
“Nope not Nikki I am different girl. Nikki is sleeping.”
Nice try kid. Her daddy said she looked like a little Martian and so different girl became Mars Girl. We let her pretend for a little bit, I even let her go outside to explore this planet.
And then we let her know that it was time for Mars Girl to go back to her mommy becaue this was time for earth children to be going to sleep. It worked…she said good bye then laid down and “woke up” as Nikki. She even said that she thought she heard a Mars girl talking when she had been asleep. I told her that maybe Mars girl could come back, but it’d have to be during daytime. She agreed and went to bed with no problems this time. I absolutely know that sticking to bedtimes is important…but I also think that I was less stressed about it because she doesn’t really have anything to get up for by a certain time. Also? This was a pretty cute memory to think back on. I don’t regret letting her indulge this one time. (Tomorrow night? Should Mars Girl show up she’ll be sent straight back to Mars!
