I love pretend play. We do this on a whim all of the time and my littles usally lead the the play when this happens. I also will sometimes have an idea that I’ll plan and set up for them to play with. These are also fun because once I’ve done the inital showing of the idea it’s added to the list of things my kids decide they want to do on their own. The African Safari for instance, is one activity that my youngest child, Gizmo has us play together very often.
The play kitchen that I set up with a chair and an old men’s dress shirt got a lot of use and eventually became part of a cupcake shop.
I am a strong believer that play always provides opportunities for learning. Pretend play can offer chances to go over shapes, counting, geography and hey, even if it’s just a chance for their imagination to be flexed, that’s okay too. On this page you will find links to many of the pretend play moents that we have shared together.
