Goodbye my sketchbook, goodbye

I sent my sketchbook journal off on it’s way this Saturday. The moment was bittersweet for me.
As worried as I had been that it wouldn’t get finished in time, I was really happy about finishing it.
But it was finished, and so was the daily habit of drawing in it which I had grown to love.
That’s ok because I’ve decided to get a blank art journal as soon as I am able. I can’t wait.
Meanwhile I’ve been looking at other’s submissions,(Wow,really great stuff out there) something I wouldn’t let myself do before. And that was probably a good idea. I’ve had some ideas of what I’d change if I did this project again next year- but I didn’t want to be too influenced on this my first time. Here are a few of the last pages that I did, and my Youtube video.

(Thank you, I know I’ve gone on and on about this!)

Recycled Art-Cereal Boxes

Today isn’t necessarily about a craft project, but rather about a craft material that I love to use. Cereal boxes!!!! I personally like to pull them apart at the seams and then cut them. I then save these for when the girls want to paint. Cereal boxes are excellent to paint on top of, because they provide a sturdy base that doesn’t easily get all saturated with paint and water the kids slosh onto it.

I usually like to glue a piece of paper on top of the cereal box, unless the paint colors are very dark. It makes for better contrast. It doesn’t matter if there’s writing on the back of the paper because that side will be glued down.

This one is decorated with rolled up pieces of catalogue, you can glue them down long ways or vertically. I personally like the honeycomb look you get when you glue them this way.

Another fun way to use empty cereal boxes? Masks, Just cut out a circle shape, fold them to cut out the eye or use a scapel for a cleaner cut(Parents only!) Then let the kids decorate them as they like ,paint, yarn pieces, construction paper scraps whatever you’ve got handy.  Here are some links to other fun craft ideas for cereal boxes, enjoy:
