Making Eyeballs

Because eyeballs are always useful, especially during this time of year and this is a good way to use any egg cartons you might have lying around.

Material Needed:

clean egg carton

Pipe cleaner

Scissors

White Paint

Black Paint

Various Paints for different eye colors

Paint brush

Tissue

Construction Paper

Glue

Turn egg carton upside down, paint white and let dry.

Add eye details with additional paint and let dry again.

Cut out individual eyes…or egg cups.

Punch two holes into either side of egg cup.

String pipe cleaner through first hole, pinch end of pipe cleaner to attach it to cup.

Circle egg cup with pipe cleaner, tucking under as you go. Tread the end of the pipe cleaner into the second hole and pinch this end also.

Trace and cut out a circle from your construction paper using the egg cup.

Stuff inside of egg cup with tissue.  Attach the egg cup to the construction paper with glue. Let dry.

(* Side note: I tend to use “Let dry” a lot in these types of posts. Trust me do as I say and not as I do, you’ll end up with a lot less wet paint and glue on your hands that way. )

Attach another pipe cleaner to your finished eyeball so that you can attach it to various projects.(Such as the eyeball garland pictured above or a wreath) You can also attach it to craft projects using glue, in which case the second pipe cleaner would not be necessary.

Hope you give this a try, we are having lots of fun trying to find new uses for our eyes. I can see this as even being a useful replacement for google eyes! (We seriously get through lots of google eyes over here.)

Cute Halloween Gift Idea

This week I’ll be sharing a few Halloween ideas with y’all. We’ve been having alot of fun getting our house ready for Halloween. I’m also trying out a few ideas for my daughter’s birthday this month. I think this candy jar would make a cute halloween gift for a teacher or the host of a Halloween party.

I started with an empty plastic coffee jar that I cleaned out first and then filled with candy corn and chocolate eyeballs.

The web is two coffee filters that I drew a spider web onto with a permanent marker. I glued this onto the jar’s lid and held it down with a rubberband and then yarn.

The spider is just an egg carton that I painted and then poked with 4 inch pipe cleaner segments for the legs. Small bits of pipe cleaner added contrast. Googly eyes finished him off and then I stuffed the inside of the carton with tissue and glued him on the top of the coffee filter web.

This little spider guy would be cute in lots of places, I can see him on a wreath or a table display. The kids and I might even make a couple more to go around the house.
