Workout Recaps

Between My husband’s birthday and the 4th of July weekend last week, I never posted a workout recap last week. So I decided to highlight my favorites from last week and this week just past.

I’ve liked trying out new workouts this past month. I’ve really liked not paying out money to do so.

Highlights: I’m not getting bored doing the same routine everyday. I’ve tried exercises I was a little scared to try before. Pilates was one of these and I’ve discovered that I really like it.

Low lights: (Is low light even the proper term?) Waking up and spending time looking for workouts makes actually working out in the mornings a hassle. Yes I could look for workouts the night before, but we all know that I’m not that organized. :) So I may retry my 30 day shred for a while. I’m interested in what results I’d get from it now versus the results that I got before when I weighed more. When I don’t do the shred I’ll go walking or do a walking dvd. I may also re-visit some of the workouts I’ve done this month.

These were my favorites from this week and last week:

TKO workoutfrom ExerciseTv (Total Knockout Body)

Pretty good workout, I liked Amy Dixon’s Kickbox workout better, which I also did last week.

If I could just bring up one of my biggest workout Dvd pet peeves? It’s when the trainer feels the need to add too many moves to a sequence. A non-coordinated person such as myself is not going to be able to keep up & we’ll get confused and frustrated. Do we really need to slide to the left, punch, reverse lunge, jumping jack, squat, uppercut, back kick & repeat? I like Jillian Micheals because she only does like three moves and then moves on to three new moves. It’s a lot less confusing and I feel like I get a better workout when I know what I’m doing. Okay, sorry, end rant.

Pop Pilates:(Did all of these on the same day adding up to 40 minutes total.)

Back Attack!

Tricep Toner

Saddlebag Shaver

Envy Girls:Body of Envy on Hulu

It’s a full length workout that I liked alot more then I expected to do. It’s on Hulu, so there are adverts at the beginning. It’s still a good workout and a good way to see if you’d like to purchase this workout dvd or any of their others. Yes, the whole envy girl tag is a little cheesy, and labeling each girl for her fitness “super power” is too. It’s still a workout that I enjoyed doing so I’m gonna let all of that slide.

I also did a lot of walking and some circuit training. I am still building up my courage to start running. Yes, I fully realize that I’m making running into  a “thing” …it’s what I do. I actually attempted running with my five year old a couple days ago. (The girl is really fast for a five year, at least I think so.) It was great until she looked behind her, tripped up and went skidding across the pavement. Ouch. It ended the running portion of our walk.

I do realize this may be something I have to do on my own, my husband has no interest in running, but it’s tricky. If I do it before the girls wake up, it’s still dark out. Once it’s light enough they are up and my husband is working. I’ll get it sorted though, I’m sure.

And in further news I am still 10 pounds from my goal weight. This is a little embarrassing to admit. It is very frustrating to have stalled here. Am I not counting things on accident? Am I over calculating calories burned? Have I gained muscle tone? It makes me regret not taking measurements when I first began all of this.

Weekly Workout Routine Recap

Um, Where has this week gone exactly?!! I still can’t believe it’s Friday already. We hope to get our pool up this weekend if we can get the ground to be somewhat flat. It’s been like breaking through concrete to even try to get started on that. This is just a quick recap of what I did this last week.

Monday- Walking 3.0 mph, 84 minutes

Went walking on the dam with my husband while my mom watched the kiddos. It was 7:30 and still way too hot for them to be out in it. This? Was a nice time for us actually and I’d love to go walking with just him more often. We were able to go a little faster then we normally do and still have a nice talk.

Tuesday: Self Interval Lose 10 Workout, 30 min

Usual workout that I loving but my Ipod was dead so I had to use a Tabita timer online, and I picked the wrong one. The timer was way off, I checked it later. Instead of 20 second intervals it was doing 30 second intervals. On the upside I realized exactly how long I could do some of the exercises I’ve been doing in this interval before my body gives out on me. (28 seconds) The burpees almost killed me. ;)

Wednesday: Leslie Sansone, 5 mile Walk

Walking 2.5 mph, 50 minutes

Checked this out from the library. It was pretty good, I think it’s a good way for most people to be able to workout if they find other workouts hard to do. This was the first morning I tried to wake up early to workout so I didn’t feel like doing anything too intense.

It said 5 miles on it but I used my pedometer for most of it and only registered 3 1/2 miles by the 4th mile on the tape. It also clocked me at 3.0 mph, but it died before I got to the 5th mile segment so I rounded down just to be safe.

Thursday: Self Interval Lose 10 Workout, 25 minutes

Walking, 2.0 mph- Just a nice walk with the kids to the park after supper.

Friday: Bridal Body Burn Workoutwith Violet Zaki, ExerciseTv(free full length workout)

Did this today and loved it. Really loved it. If I had a DVD Rom on this computer I’d consider downloading it to watch on tv.(The only downside to watching the free videos is a small screen because you can’t click to enlarge them like you can with a paid membership.) I want to check out more of this trainer’s workouts in the future because I’ve heard her kickboxing workouts are really good.

Saturday: Self Lose 10 Circuit

I’m supposed to do this 3x a week. I cannot for the life of me figure out why I always stall on doing the last one. I’d do them all at the beginning of the week but….yeah I can’t really talk myself into that yet. It’s not a horrible workout, I think I’ve just turned it into a “thing” if that makes sense. Anyway,I plan on doing  this tomorrow.

Sunday: Rest Day

How did I end up with only 1 this week? I’ll have 2 next week, probably.

I’d really like to incorporate a Tone it Up routine to the mix in the coming week, I’ve only tried their leg pyramid one. I think you’re supposed to do one of their routines plus cardio though, so we’ll see. I may save them for once I’ve stopped doing the Self interval circuit.

Do you do Tone it Up workouts? How do you incorporate them?

Ways to get your workout on… for free!

I’ve been working out for a while with 30 day shred and also Burn Fat, Boost Metabolism and Jillian rocks. In the way that any person pushing you to get through what feels like death at the time rocks.

I’m kidding of course. I mean her work outs are hard but they also make you feel really strong when you get through them. They literally reshape your body in a way I’ve never seen before. (There are other methods that work the same way, I’m told, but this was my first encounter with this type of workout.) You can keep doing them as your fitness level changes because you stop using the modifications and you do more reps. This for a workout tape is an awesome thing.

That being said, I can’t do them anymore and I’ve decided to take a break. There is no exercise tape in creation that I could do forever and not get bored out of my mind with. (Okay maybe the PX90 because that’s a set of tapes but I’ve never tried it so I don’t know.) This is not good bye foreverby the way, it’s just goodbye for now.

This month I’m trying something new. There are a few workouts I’ve seen here and there that are free to view. So being the incredibly cheap thrifty person that I am, I’ve decided to see if I can get all of my cardio this month for free.

Right now I’m doing circuit training using the Self Lose 10 routine with Tabitha intervals 3x a week and I intend to keep doing that . I’ll be combining that with either workouts that I find online or check out from the library and our family’s  regularly scheduled, slow as molasses walks.

This was my first week of trying this.

Monday: Free day

Tuesday: 69 minutes walk, 2.2 mph

Wednesday: Self  Lose 10 Circuit, 1 hour walk 2.2 mph

Thursday:Morning- Free Workout from ExerciseTv, Explosive Cardio

My thoughts?

Pretty good workout. The switch overs weren’t too complicated and I didn’t get lost. I Hate awkward switch overs in workout tapes. If I can’t understand what to do next chances are I’m not getting the best workout I could be getting. End rant. I’ve been wanting to subscribe to Exercise Tv for a while now and was happy to see that they offer a few freebies to try out without having to sign up to anything. I’ll be back.

Afternoon:

Self:Dance Your Way Slim on Hulu.com

This workout was done for one reason and one reason only. Ice Cream. Nuff said- I’m just not the type to usually do two workouts in one day. That being said, it wasn’t that bad.

This workout was pretty low intensity and fun. The only thing that would’ve made it funner would have been me having some type of rhythm. My body just doesn’t work the way Latina bodies are supposed to work.

Cons:

1.There were commercial breaks mid workout which made this looong. 51 minutes to be exact. I just kept doing whatever we had been doing before the break during the break.

2.It was pretty easy to keep up with except for the few times I got confused. I think doing this one again would cut down on that.

Friday:I plan on doing the Self circuit

Saturday: I plan on doing the Self circuit

Sunday:Free Day

So we’ll see how this goes and I’ll do weekly updates. :)

What are your favorite ways to work out?
