Our Family Advent Calender

I just finished our family’s advent calender!

Yes, I do know that this is December the 9th……….Quite frankly, I’m just happy to be done with it before the 25th. And next year? I will hopefully get to be all on time with my adventnessnessness. So there’s that.

I should say that we have had our advent up since the 1st of December, but a lot of the pockets were pinned on.(My only excuse for that was Nanowrimo.) Come December 1st  I had finished pockets 1- 14  and ornaments 1-9.  So we’ve been putting on an ornament every day in the meanwhile.

We’ve never had an advent before but The Kid’s questions about how many more days til Christmas now, (which started a few days after Halloween) made me think it would be a good time to introduce one. It’s helped with the Kid a lot, she counts the empty buttons every day to see how many more days are left until Christmas.  Gizmo still wakes up every day and says.” I sure wish it was Christmas already…is it Christmas already?”  Oh well, maybe next year? :)

I used the back of an old fabric calender that I bought last year for the sequins and thread it came with. I got the thing for $.75, so it was a real steal. I didn’t know what to use the calender part for but the picture was cute, so I put it up. When I wanted to make an advent it came to mind and I’m happy that I saved it. I have plans to look out for these again this year so that I can re purpose them some other way.

I used felt and bits of fabric that I had laying around (The backing is completely made up from old t-shirts.) so this project was really unexpensive.

I had to put a lot of time into it, but that was broken up into little snatches of time here and there. I think it was worth it because I like having it on my wall. It’s not perfect but  it represents us and I know it’s the only one like it, so I’,m okay with that.

I’ve only shown a few of the ornaments in this post but I have a photo album for the calender on facebook and I’m  updating that daily.(Or really, really trying to anyway!)

You can see the rest of the ornaments here.
