This is an easy refrigerator calendar that I came up with during our days of being obsessed with anything foam. Okay, during my days of being obsessed with anything foam. 
I wanted a way to get my youngest interested in what day it was as well as an easy way for me to know what day it was at a glance. (This is bad, I know-but sometimes my days runneth together a bit. I’d blame mom brain-except that I’ve always kinda been this way. I’m okay with it.)
I came up with this:
This was easy and quick to make. I used foam because we had a lot of it around but you could use anything that you wanted to really, included something maybe not as bright as this is. I measured my months,seasons and the date onto the foam and used a sharpie to write those in. For the dates I traced a small bottle and wrote those in with a sharpie as well. I used the stick on magnet strips cut to size and also added scotch tape on top of the magnet to make sure they stuck on. I’ve had no trouble with these coming off. (*My children are not really young enough for me to worry about them putting these in their mouth and they are in an area we are all in together most of the time. You probably know the dangers of very small children and magnets but: If your littles are younger you may have to wait a bit before making these or just keep them in an area out of reach!)
The calender is pretty simple to use too. The actual calender part is on the top of the fridge, the seasons are to the side. Below is where Gizmo (or The kid if she is so inclined) can add the current day and change the month or the season when it’s time. We do this in the morning and I say,” Today is Monday.” (for instance) and hand down the Monday magnet. Then I’ll say,”It is the 13th.” and I hand down the number thirteen magnet. Then we go through the date together while I and Gizmo point at each magnet.
“Today is Monday, it is August the thirteenth, 2012 and it is still…Summer.” We especially like the days when it’s a new month or season because there are more magnets to change. What I like most about this is that I can keep using it next year if I want to just by making a new year magnet. The numbers are easy to replace too if they go missing.
I still use the traditional calender for appointments and birthdays(The Kid has asked that I make special magnets for these days too but I haven’t done that yet) but this is a fun way for us to keep up with the day together.
